Christmas and Emergency Rooms
Honestly, we did not exactly have a “normal” Christmas this year. Sure, the majority of the day was normal. But my daughter was sick, and we suspected it was a UTI turned bladder infection turned…worse. We weren’t sure exactly, but all signs and symptoms seemed to point to Kidney’s which you just know is never good. Throw in the fact that she is a 56lb ten year old and it was her favorite day of the year, and it just plain wasn’t good.
The morning seemed normal, though she kept complaining about her side hurting her. At first we thought she had a Wii injury (insert laugh) but after a bit, we could tell something else was up. Her fever was 101 and while she had a blast opening up her gifts and watching her siblings open theirs, that spark that is normally there with her was missing. As is typical for Christmas day, we usually go to my mom’s which we still decide to do. She spiked another fever after a few hours there - 103 and this one wasn’t budging. We took her home, gave her more Tylenol and planned to call the doctor in the morning.
At 2am she climbed into bed with me, crying pretty hard, clutching her side and basically balling herself up. So we spent about 2 hours total at the Emergency Room and were home by 4:45am. Yes, it was as we had suspected - Kidney’s were infected - mostly the bladder - 2 anti-biotics and some medicine for pain - today - we’re almost all better. YAY!
The nurse told her she had “sick eyes” when she saw her. “Oh baby, look at your sick eyes. I can see it. I hate to see children with sick eyes.” That’s what she said. But look - Brie really did have sick eyes.

Poor thing!

How dreadful both for your daughter and for the rest of you. It must have been a worry. I hope that she is back to normal health now!
Awww poor baby. I hope she gets/feels better. I hate it when kids are sick. They are so innocent. {{{{hugs}}}}
What a horrible thing to have to go through on Christmas, for all of you! Glad you got her the care she needed and that she’s feeling better now!
ER is no place to spend Christmas, that’s for sure. I do hope she is better and out of pain. I have to say it hurt to look into those sick eyes, poor baby.
Hope to hear how she is doing in your next post.
God bless!
This must have been so awful for you! I hope everything improves rapidly. Good luck and God bless!!!
Awww! I hope your daughter feels better soon! Poor thing!
(((HUGZ!)))
Not sure what happened with the comment I tried to post, and I apologize if I’m doing a double!
I hope your daughter feels better soon! It’s no fun when our little angels get sick…and have ’sick eyes’…poor thing!
((HUGZ!))
Hope she gets well before the New Year starts!
Hye, cutee,
I know, God will give you the strength and you will be wondering in gardens like butterfly very soon… Do not worry about it…
Kinda understand how you feel too. I got stuck in the hospital on a drip just before Christmas, but I managed to get discharged on Christmas Eve. It’s quite irritating and exasperating to be admitted to the hospital (A&E) during festive season, so do take care too!!
Get well soon dear little one!
God Bless you and keep you Safe.
May she be healed and blessed in the name of the Father, the Son, and eternal Holy Spirit. Amen!
Get well soon!

oh the poor thing, hope she’s feeling much better now.
There is no feeling as helpless as your kid being sick! So glad that everything’s getting better.
Sorry to hear about kidney infections. I have had several bladder infections and I had a kidney stone a few years ago. That stuff definitely is not fun. I make sure I drink a lot of water. I’ve read that if you get a lot of bladder infections they can lead to kidney stones so I’m trying to take better care of myself.
Oh, that poor thing! I have a 10 yr. old daughter, too, and I know how bummed (and scared) she would feel if that were her. I hope she 100% all better soon!
Ohhhh…..what a way to welcome Christmas. I am sorry your lil one was not feeling so good.
Get well soon Brie. There are many agreeing it should happen quickly.
awww, hope she is recovering okay : )
I’m so sorry your daughter is sick. I know you are waiting on her test results so I will keep her in my prayers for good news. Hudson and Mary Jo
