Fast Food Hides The Corn

Published by simplywriting at 9:02 am under Interesting Food Info & News Edit This

fast-food.jpgThis has to be about the strangest article I’ve read in a long time about fast food restaurants and their food preparation techniques in America. It seems strange to me that they process corn into our meat, which of course they feed the corn to the cows to fatten them up. And we say there is no link to America’s obesity problem and fast food?

According to Hope Jahren who did a study on fast food consumption, sampling over 500 menu items from popular restaurants such as Wendy’s, Burger King and McDonald’s, fast food meat on a whole is more commonly derived from corn. Nice. It doesn’t come as a huge shock, because I will admit I have known that for years.

I will also tell you that I tend to be a fast food junkie, though I have tailored that down quite a bit since I enjoy cooking at home so much. But that news bothers me, the confirmation bothers me, and the fact that fast food restaurants spend so much time ‘dispelling the myth’ that people gain weight by eating fast food - seems almost comical to me. Did they think people wouldn’t figure it out? That someday it wouldn’t all come out? Why not just be honest about it.

What’s your thoughts?

Here’s the original article.
