The Cooking Guru

Published by simplywriting at 10:54 am under General Edit This

My best friend just started a job working at a limited assisted living/nursing home facility. It’s actually a really cool place. It is an old house that has been converted and expanded to turn into this place and there are only 35 women there. (there are a few men too, but apparently not right in this particular house). She signed on as the cook, mostly because her grandmother is there and she knew it would be a great opportunity to improve the food quality (they fired the cook on Tuesday) and spend time with Grammsie too.

She isn’t a bad cook by any means, but she is married with no kids and hasn’t expanded outside the traditional “classic” meals too much. So she has about a million questions. Yesterday she called me just to check in and say everything was fine but she was exausted.

Today, she has already called me TWICE. Once while she was making breakfast because she needed a milk/egg ratio for a massive amount of French Toast and then just a few minutes ago because she is beginning to work on lunch. I am laughing because she called me and her first words were: ‘Hello Cooking Guru, I have another question.”

Too funny! I seriously am no expert by any means, but I do know food prep and LOVE cooking for my family. I’m not sure I could do what she’s doing and love it, but I did agree to help her out with recipes, meal planning and ordering and if she ever had to take a day off (she doesn’t do that too often) - maybe I’d be willing to help out one day. LOL Maybe! She was pretty tired last night. I don’t know that I want to be that tired. I like freelance writing much better because I control how much or how little I do and if I’m exhausted, I did that to myself. LOL

So, now you all know. My friends all seem to think I am a cooking guru. In the past two weeks I have been asked how to make an already cooked dry coffee cake moister (is that a word?) LOL, how to do a massive amount of french toast, what to do with leftover chicken, how to store spices and seasonings and I have been asked for at least 8 recipes.

I really should charge for this ya know? :)
