Camping Trips and Mishaps
Well, we made it back home yesterday afternoon from our weekend camping trip. It was actually great fun, with the exception of a very bad unexpected downpour Saturday afternoon which provided for entertaining food issues, since half of our items got too wet to consume or to salvage. Alas, we survived. Thankfully we brought extra coolers full of snacks and such and that one of our packages of hamburger buns was actually in one of those coolers so we were able to make hamburgers without the soggy buns.
We’re the kind of family who could go camping every weekend, especially in the fall (my favorite time to go) but this weekend provided to be quite exhausting and I was a bit more excited to see the exit sign for my home than I usually am.
It was not a bad weekend, simply tiring because we were so busy. The trip consisted of a 6 hour float trip, mining for gems, a mini cave tour, two 2 hour swimming trips to the river, a couple of trips to the camp store and gift shop to purchase “special gems” for each child, two trips into town to get coffee because all the electric sites were taken and we were counting on that, so none of us brought the campfire coffee contraption, and two trips to super wal-mart. In between all those activities was food preparation, exploring the area, setting up and taking down the two tents and the picnic tent and a dozen rounds of the game Whonu (if you have never played that game - it is a Cranium game and is so incredibly fun EVEN (maybe even ESPECIALLY) for adults).
That is our weekend. We are actually contemplating a camping trip this weekend again, only on a smaller scale (possibly an overnight trip). I have two kids that start school on Thursday. YES! You read that right. We are on year-round school and I am totally hating it. Meet the teacher night is tomorrow and my poor kiddo’s hop on a bus Thursday morning to the beginning of a new school year. *sigh*
Ah, at least that means more time for other various things.
