Fourth of July Party and Get Together Money Saving Tips

Published by simplywriting at 12:00 pm under Food Holidays Edit This

flag.jpgIt’s almost time for the red, white and blue holiday here in America. How are you planning on celebrating? We try to get together with friends for the holiday and enjoy the friendship and fireworks. While we sometimes enjoy going to a firework celebration, we live in an area that seems to be abundant in firework displays we can see right from our own backyard. We plan to have a little pool fun while enjoying the fireworks. This week’s recipes are some of our favorites to bring to the Independence day celebrations we attend.

Here are a few tips for having your own gathering while saving money.

First, check out the dollar store for decorations. Not only do they have great decorations but you can buy red, white and blue plates, napkins and cups. They are cheap and work well. You can also find balloons for decorations. Buy a red bag, white bag and blue bag. You can tape them together and decorate picnic tables, chairs and even on doors and fence posts. Our dollar store has all kinds of Fourth of July decorations from picks with streamers to actual signs and other decorations.

So that you aren’t footing the food bill on your own, suggest that friends or family that are attending, bring a dish or two. If it a smaller gathering, if everyone brings two dishes you should have plenty to go around.

If you want to play games, plan outdoor games or water games so that you can cool off in the heat. Water blasters, sprinklers and games played in the pool are perfect. Look at what you have and see if there is a way to turn it into a game. We made a water soccer game. Where you had to go by a sprinkler that goes back and forth. If you got wet, you were out, if you stayed dry and got the ball to the other end without getting hit, you were safe and got to go again. Try out different things to see what you can make your own game out of. It only takes a little creative imagination. Also consider asking those that are attending the party if they have any outdoor games or suggestions. You might be able to get some ideas from your guests.

If you are going to watch fireworks, grab some old blankets or towels and place them out in the backyard. Provide chairs for the adults who don’t wish to sit on the ground.

A great decoration idea that we’ve done a few times and we “borrowed” from someone else, is to use your red and white Christmas lights to line your patio, stair case or fence. You can add blue bows or red, white and blue bows (we got 10 from the dollar store that we reuse every year).

What kinds of things do you do to save money on your outdoor holiday parties?
