What is Freezer Cooking and Does It Really Save Money?
Saving money seems to be on everyones minds these days. It is getting increasingly more difficult to save money on everyday things and monthly expenses. That is what is so nice about Freezer Cooking. It does save you money and it also makes preparing meals much quicker and easier.
I have been using Freezer Cooking for the past six years. Some months I don’t do it, but overall it has been a pretty consistent way of life. What is Freezer Cooking? It is preparing meals and dishes ahead of time, or aspects of a meal ahead of time and then freezing them. When you are ready to cook a meal, you have a dish or a bag that can be dumped into a pot and cooked or put into the oven and forgotten until the timer goes off.
It is a great thing for working parents, as it allows more time for family and still allows hot home-cooked meals together. In addition, it saves money because there is always something ready to make and usually just requires popping it into the oven. Another way that it saves money is that you prepare the dishes in bulk ahead of time. This allows you to make everything from scratch, utilize sales and coupons to save the most and plan your meals around those.
Freezer Cooking isn’t that complicated, yet can be a little time consuming. I usually dedicate one weekend a month to Freezer Cooking and it requires about 4-6 hours total of preparation time (which is dependent on the meals you are planning and how many meals you are preparing). A 4-6 hour cooking session tends to produce enough meals for a month. Many people only do a week or two weeks worth of meals and this takes considerably less time to prepare.
